No Further Action for Graham Linehan

Max Thompson

20 October 2025

On 1st September, Irish comedian and US resident Graham Linehan was arrested by five armed police officers when he landed at Heathrow. He was detained for over 12 hours and treated as a criminal. His alleged offence? Posting three gender-critical tweets.

Fast forward to 20th October: after weeks on police bail Linehan was informed there was insufficient evidence to bring any charges against him.

This outcome should surprise no one. It is not a crime to question or criticise trans ideology. Yet the police have, at times, acted less like impartial enforcers of the law and more like the personal enforcers of trans activists – a deeply troubling development in a democracy.

Just a week before Linehan was cleared, the Free Speech Union took the Metropolitan Police to court to challenge their unlawful restriction on his communication – a ban preventing him from contacting any trans-identifying males. Adding insult to injury, the Met failed to even appear at the hearing.

While this represents a significant personal victory for Graham Linehan, it is not the end of the matter. The Free Speech Union continues to support him as he pursues legal action against the Metropolitan Police for wrongful arrest, among other things.

The message must now be clear: police forces across the country cannot continue to suppress lawful free speech without consequence. They must return to their fundamental duty – protecting all citizens equally and upholding the rule of law, not enforcing woke ideology.

The police exist to keep the public safe, not to police opinion.

Outraged that Graham Linehan was arrested by five armed officers at Heathrow for posting gender-critical tweets — and that the police didn't even bother turning up to court?

The FSU took the Metropolitan Police to court over their unlawful restrictions on Linehan's communications, and we are supporting his wrongful arrest claim — because no one should face armed arrest for expressing a lawful opinion. Join 40,000+ members. From £29.99/year.
