Following the release by the Government of the draft text of its Online Safety Bill, this Free Speech Union briefing outlines why the legislation is a danger to online free speech. The FSU has been publishing on the government’s plans for an Online Safety Bill since last year. The Bill shows that there have been some improvements in the Government’s plans, but they remain a threat to freedom of speech online and will need major amendments if the government is to avoid online censorship for the United Kingdom.
