Somerville College had initially given students until Friday to complete the exercise, which one student said took 15 minutes, but changed its policy after the Free Speech Union wrote to its management. The campaign group, which is led by the former journalist and free schools advocate Toby Young, said one of its members was a student at the college. The student complained about being required to take the course, which is designed to help people recognise prejudices or biases they may hold against minority groups, and said it was a breach of their freedom of expression.
