Letter to GMP Chief Constable Stephen Watson QPM concerning the handling of the case of Mr Martin Frost

Summary

We have written to the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police to object to GMP releasing the name, address and date of birth of a man arrested in Manchester city centre on the afternoon of 1st February for burning a copy of the Koran. Didn’t GMP stop to think that they’d be putting his life in danger, given that a man in Sweden was shot dead for burning a copy of the Koran a few days before? The Telegraph ran a story about our letter here.

Below is the reply we received to our letter on 7 February 2025.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for reaching out to us with your concerns regarding the handling of Mr Frost’s case. We take such matters very seriously and appreciate your engagement.

Please be assured that the investigating officer is committed to providing Mr Frost with any safeguarding measures if they are required.

Regarding your request for further information, due to data protection regulations, we are unable to disclose specific details about the case directly. However, you are welcome to submit a Freedom of Information (FOI) request through our official website.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Kind regards,

Chief Constable’s Office
Greater Manchester Police
