Nick Buckley MBE, who was ousted as chief executive of his own charity last month following some mild criticisms of the Black Lives Matter manifesto, is back in charge thanks to the Free Speech Union. As of today, the trustees who fired him have all resigned, new trustees have been appointed and Nick has been re-appointed as CEO of Mancunian Way, the award-winning charity he founded in 2011.

The Free Speech Union, recently founded by the energetic journalist Toby Young to uphold Britain’s tattered traditions, says that it now receives half a dozen requests for help every day. The fact that such an organisation is required represents a severe indictment of the growing institutional disdain for freedom of expression.
Leo McKinstry, the Sunday Express, 19th July 2020.
“… cancel culture is not about criticism. In a democracy, free speech includes criticism, harsh criticism, debate, discussion – all of those things are welcome. But cancel culture is something very specific: it is a public vilification campaign, it is a dehumanising process which seeks to completely destroy somebody’s livelihood, to exclude them from public life and to completely disregard often decades of contribution that they’ve made.”

“Suzanne Moore, a Guardian columnist, wrote a column in which she took issue with some of the more dogmatic demands of the trans lobby, and 338 members of staff – writers at the Guardian – including Owen Jones, wrote a letter denouncing her for her anti-trans views… if you don’t sign up to every jot and tittle of the woke agenda, you’re a transphobe or a racist.”
Toby Young debates Owen Jones, Sky News, 12th July 2020.
“Black people don’t have a monopoly on oppression, they don’t have a monopoly on suffering, and I think that framing the black identity solely based on these really negative characteristics will only weigh people down.”

It’s the mob’s weapon of choice – trying to take away their victim’s livelihood – it’s even happened to the cartoonist for the Communist Morning Star and the organiser of a gay pride parade… But what does it feel like to find yourself at the bottom of an internet “pile-on”? The Mail on Sunday spoke to some of the victims of “cancel culture” to find out.

Toby Young from the Free Speech Union has said the number of people coming to him for help saying they have been a victim of “cancel culture” has significantly increased since “the explosion of the BLM movement”. Speaking with talkRADIO’s Dan Wootton, he said “[The Left] are living in a different reality if they think cancel culture isn’t real and unfortunately I think the only moment that it’s going to dawn on them that it is real is when the mob comes for them.”
Dan Wootton interviews Toby Young, talkRadio, 9th July 2020.

… Luckily all these people have been helped out by the Free Speech Union, which fights the corner of those victimised. And gets tough with spineless organisations that go along with the radical Left agenda. Maybe JK Rowling should join up. It’s only a couple of quid per week. Stu Peters is now back on air.
