Dennis Prager, a conservative thinker, has said that his online media organisation, PragerU, has been targeted by NewsGuard, a news rating service, NewsMax reports.
NewsGuard ranks media outlets using its own self-created criteria, selectively and subjectively picking the stories it will analyse from a news outlet.
The organisation has r been accused of having a liberal bias. Two Media Research Center studies have found that NewsGuard ranks conservative media lower than liberal media.
NewsGuard’s rankings are used by major corporations and advertising agencies. In turn, these ratings are used to prevent conservative media from getting advertising revenues.
NewsGuard is certainly not unbiased. It was founded in 2018 by Steven Brill, a long-time Democratic operative. For decades, Brill has donated to top Democrats like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama
Speaking to Newsmax‘s “Rob Schmitt Tonight” show on Wednesday, Prager said: “They are there to suppress the right”.
“We don’t have this equivalent. They do. And it works because … big business in America is run largely by cowards, just like big universities are,” Prager continued.
Reflecting on the role of big companies, Prager observed that “these people will not stand up for free speech”, suggesting that they were bullied by organisations like Newmax.
Before his Newsmax appearance, Prager had searched “NewsGuard” and “COVID” on Google,
“Anybody can do this, so I’m giving away how you find out about this on Google, which is not conservative-friendly,” Prager said.
“And it turns out that in 2020, they wrote what a lie and misinformation it is to imply that COVID was started in a Wuhan lab, that anyone who says that is engaged in conspiracy thought from right-wing crackpots. OK, just as an example.”
Most experts now accept that COVID-19 did indeed originate from a Wuhan lab.
According to Breitbart, PragerU CEO Marissa Streit revently launched an online campaign seeking to expose NewsGuard for their bias.
Streit argued that Brill “is a Democrat Party loyalist,” who is “on record dismissing the Hunter Biden laptop.”
Streit also accused the organization of being “mostly comprised of left-leaning activists and ex-journalists.”
Reflecting on his time studying Communism and Russia, Prager expressed his shock that authoritarian attempts to suppress free speech were becoming increasingly commonplace across the USA and West.
Stressing the perceived incompatibility between free speech and leftism, “There was no example of any institution or country of the left taking power and not suppressing free speech.
“It has never happened. They will always suppress dissent.
“And there’s a reason, because if truth is allowed to prevail, the left will fail.”
